The defender was signed from the Dutch club this summer for around £12m, but only £2m has been handed over at this point. It is suggested on Italian website Tgcom.it that the guarantee papers for the remaining sum have not been completed, so Chivu is still not eligible to play in an official match. The Giallorossi maintain that the paperwork has been printed up by Capitalia, but according to these reports the bank denies it has guaranteed payment. This is a further blow to Roma’s already delicate financial situation, as the club is one of several under investigation for providing false paperwork to prove its stability. The FIGC looks set to rule that Roma, Napoli and others were unaware of the irregularities and are to be given a further twelve days to provide accurate guarantees. This nonetheless leaves £5m of uncovered debt plus the £10m for Chivu’s transfer to be found by the August 27 deadline.
